What do 9 out of 10 WTA players do between matches
At a WTA tournament, I asked 10 players if they explore the cities they travel to on tour.
9 out of 10 said yes.
They go for walks. Find a good coffee shop. See something new.
Players like Badosa, Andreescu, and Swiatek have all said the same thing: getting away from the tennis environment is important to them.
You might think – shouldn’t I be focused on the tournament right now? 🙂
But here’s what happens when you stay at the courts all day.
Your brain stays in pressure mode. It never gets a chance to switch off. And a brain that never switches off gets tighter. And that tightness shows up in how you play.
When you step away, even for an hour, your brain gets to breathe. And when your mind relaxes, your tennis opens up. You play more freely, because you’re not constantly focused on tennis.
This isn’t just for professionals on tour. It applies at every level.
Between matches and tournaments, give yourself time off.
Don’t check the draws. Don’t look at the rankings. Don’t think about your next match.
Let your head rest. You’ll come back fresher and ready to play your best. 🙂
